Challenge:
Get data from ST506 to modern computer

Resources:
Old machine Dos 3 and ST506 disk

Middle aged machine with Windows 95 and an ISA port

Modern PC

Approach so far:
Plug ST506 into middle age machine-> middle age machine boots to dos 3 and
cannot see
its IDE hard-drive (due to way ST506 works by using a bios hook)

Dos 3 also does not support 3.5" floppy drive so using middle age machine
floppy does not work

my last idea was to use a null modem cable, but I've no idea what to use in
dos 3 to transfer the files this way!

Can anyone help?

Over modems or a null modem cable, maybe an old version Laplink.
You might be able to get an old version free.

Alternatively, there were various free packages for transferring
files using modems or null modems, such as Kermit.
http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/ and links say that Kermit 95 costs
$75.00, but old versions were free.

http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/mskermit.html talks about
MS-DOS Kermit V3.14 for DOS 2.0 and later under Windows 3.11
or earlier. See the web page for download links, rules for free use,
and version information to see if you can connect your hardware
using it.
